Story Two: We have been honored to have our beautiful “calendar girl angels” celebrate Jeremy’s journey with their version of “The Necklace”. Their support has been paramount in not only supporting Jeremy individually, but to raise awareness about Sarcoma cancer for all patients enduring the diagnoses.

Our objective has always been to bring light to all cancer research – regardless of type; to treat every diagnosis with the intensity it requires and most importantly, to provide patients and caregivers the dignity they so greatly deserve.

In 2006 we began journaling Jeremy’s journey and found it to be helpful in keeping our friends and family members informed of changes and challenges.  It has created such a following that many supporters receiving updates have never met us.

When our good friend, Steve Moore of Swift’s Jewelers, designed the “Jeremy Necklace” to auction at a fundraiser which did not meet the reserve, it was unknown at the time created for a bigger purpose.   While that purpose would not be revealed for several years, its destiny was obvious as soon as my mother, Judy read “The Necklace”.

With the help of a few of her friends, it began to blossom into the wonder it is today.  Suddenly the calendar began to fill with ladies waiting patiently for their turn to wear the “Jeremy Necklace”. Happily, the necklace has a celebrity in and of itself and if cancer awareness is mentioned even remotely in the story it tells, it is honoring Jeremy and his mission.

We invite you to join the caring bridge website to learn more about my husband’s journey.  My mother has also created a website blog dedicated to the “Jeremy Necklace”, articles pertaining to it and the gatherings shared as a result.

Thank you for allowing us to dovetail on your wondrous journey of “The Necklace”.  We have found inspiration, hope and joy in reading your stories of sisterhood and friendship.

Sincerely,

Sharon Ostrowski

What I found most remarkable about this book was not just the women, who were indeed inspiring. But the way they came together, the way they worked together and saw past many obstacles to their friendships. I won’t reveal much more, except to say their story gave me hope. Hope for finding a community of women moved to do more than just get through life. Hope that small gestures make a difference.
